On 10/10/10, people at 7347 events in 188 countries got to work on the climate crisis. It’s no surprise that Sustainable Cities interns in Colima, San Fernando and Durban were part of the action!
In Durban, Aleks and Margaret joined a mass bike ride along the beachfront followed by a picnic and clean up party at the Blue Lagoon. The Mass Ride included a whole bunch of bike enthusiasts and kids from the Earn a Bike program, which matches underprivileged kids with used bikes and uses them to teach the kids how to build and repair bicycles. Police escorts helped the crowd through the normally bike-unfriendly streets while passing cars cheered them on.
In true Mexicana fashion, Interns in Colima enjoyed environmental themed documentaries from a rooftop with 50+ other participants.
While in San Fernando, Kate and Meghan spoke to a group of school children on the importance of the 350 movement in combating the current climate crisis while lending their hand to planting 350 native plant saplings at the City’s Sanitary Landfill.
10/10/10 is about more than a single day but it is about the world coming together and getting to work through a series of practical actions and solutions the world over. By linking the world and working together we start to build the sustainable future we all dream about.
